What the release notes say

  • Start a task in its own git worktree. The welcome screen's “Work in” switch (next to the folder and branch chips) now offers Local or Worktree; pick Worktree and the first prompt of a new thread cuts a fresh cline/<id> branch off the current one, creates a worktree under ~/.cline/worktrees/, and runs the task there, so the agent never touches your working tree. The conversation chip shows <repo> / cline/<id> with the full path in its tooltip. Deleting the task removes its worktree and branch (discarding uncommitted changes in it), unless another session still lives there. Only new threads are affected — follow-ups and reopened sessions stay where they are
  • Long sessions in the desktop app now compact automatically. Auto-compaction had never actually run here: the sidecar opted sessions into checkpoints but never into compaction, so the 90% trigger was never installed and long conversations simply ran out of room. This was not a recent regression — the gap dated to compaction becoming opt-in in core back in April
  • On Windows, launching Cline while it is already running now brings the existing window to the front instead of starting a second copy. Closing the window hides Cline to the tray rather than quitting, so every subsequent launch from Start, the taskbar, or a shortcut started another full app — another tray icon, another backend process, all on the same Hub. Open and close a few times and the tray filled with identical icons while several idle copies kept running. Cline Beta still runs side by side with stable
  • Signing in no longer fails when the app is still starting up. A click that landed while the backend was booting (or being restarted after a failed first start) returned “desktop backend endpoint not ready” even though the connection succeeded moments later. The app now waits for a usable connection with bounded retries, restarts a backend that died before it was ready, and allows a longer window for slow login-shell profiles and for the sign-in browser round trip
  • Starting a brand-new chat on an SSH host works. A new chat on a connected remote failed immediately with “Unknown session” because the app asked the remote for the transcript of a session it had not created yet, and that rejection aborted startup before the session could be created. A missing transcript on that first read is now treated as an empty one; any other read failure still stops before creating a session
  • “Check for Updates…” is now in the app menu on macOS (under About Cline) and the tray menu on every platform. The label reflects what the updater is doing — Checking for Updates…, or Downloading Update vX.Y.Z… — and is disabled while either is in progress. Cline still checks on its own shortly after launch and every two hours
  • Deleting the session you are currently viewing now returns you to the new-task view instead of leaving its chat on screen. This only affected sessions started by sending a prompt in that pane; sessions opened from history already closed correctly
  • On macOS, a fullscreen window now leaves fullscreen before hiding on close, instead of leaving an empty fullscreen space behind
  • Cloud sessions are hidden from the sidebar, history, and search whenever Cloud is turned off, rather than lingering there. No session data is deleted and no remote runs are stopped — turning Cloud back on restores them
  • Cline runs on older Linux x64 machines again: the bundled helpers are now built for pre-AVX2 CPUs, and the Linux SSH remote helpers are compressed, making the download smaller
  • Agent Skills, rules, and MCP servers from .cline/rules are picked up consistently, including global rules created in a OneDrive-redirected Documents folder on Windows
  • Single-choice questions from the agent now submit as soon as you click an option, and accept a typed answer when none of the offered ones fit. Multiple-choice questions still use Submit
  • A model turn that hits its output-token limit before making a tool call no longer kills the run — it is retried up to three times with a reminder to be concise, and models with a large advertised output limit get a bigger default output budget
  • Compaction no longer silently falls back to truncation partway through a long session. The summarizer kept the credentials captured when the session started, so once they refreshed its request failed and the error was swallowed; it now follows the session's current credentials and model
  • Deleting a session from history now actually removes it, instead of the row reappearing on the next refresh
  • Sub-agents you configure yourself no longer ask you to approve their individual tool calls after you have already approved the delegation
  • The environment selector renders Cloud in uppercase, and the workspace selector's labels use matching font sizes
  • Refreshed the model catalog: 203 to 209 providers and 6,079 to 6,237 models. Kimi For Coding splits into separate kimi.com and kimi.ai providers, and AI21 Labs, ainetcafe, Inco, OCI Generative AI, Tempr, and Vispark are new. The resolved default model changes for 36 providers that do not pin one — most landing on DeepSeek V4.1 Flash, GLM 5.3 Flash, or MiMo V2.6 Flash. If you use one of those without pinning a model, expect a different default
