Press Ctrl+E in Copilot CLI to pick local vs cloud before each conversation
Copilot CLI v1.0.92-3 adds a pre-conversation Ctrl+E picker for local vs cloud runs, keeps input ordered under rapid typing, prompts for sandbox network bypass, authenticates sandboxed Git with masked creds, and drops retired models from the picker. Why this loop
The workflow change is choosing the run environment before you talk to the agent. In Copilot CLI v1.0.92-3, press Ctrl+E and pin Local when work should stay on this machine (sandboxed Git now uses masked credentials and SSH remote rewrites) or Cloud when the run should execute remotely. Keyboard, paste, and mouse input stay ordered during rapid interaction, so you can paste and click without waiting for the UI to catch up. When the sandbox proxy blocks a destination, use the new per-destination network bypass prompt instead of turning the sandbox off. Sub-agents keep working after you replace GitHub authentication credentials, so mid-session re-auth no longer needs a CLI restart. Retired models were removed from the model picker and supported CLI selections—rebind any saved model choice to a remaining option or the session will not start.
Proposed actions
- In GitHub Copilot CLI v1.0.92-3, press Ctrl+E at the pre-conversation prompt and select Local for this-machine sandboxed Git/SSH work or Cloud for a remote run; do this before the first message.
- When a sandboxed Copilot CLI shell command is blocked by the proxy, answer the network-bypass prompt for that destination only and leave the sandbox on.
- After you replace GitHub authentication credentials, keep the current Copilot CLI process running—do not restart it; sub-agents now continue after credential replacement.
- Open the Copilot CLI model picker and choose a still-listed model; delete any saved picker or CLI selection that named a retired model (those entries were removed).
- For Git inside the Copilot CLI sandbox, let the CLI authenticate with masked credentials and SSH remote rewrites instead of embedding tokens or rewriting remotes in your scripts.
