Enable prevent_idle_sleep, SuperGrok, and DeepSeek Flash 4.1 in Zed Agent Panel
Zed v1.21.0-pre keeps the machine awake during agent turns by default, adds SuperGrok sign-in and DeepSeek Flash 4.1, and lets you size the Threads sidebar and rename Terminal Threads. Wire those into Agent Panel settings so long-running agent work is not cut off by idle sleep.Why this loop
This prerelease targets Agent Panel reliability on long turns. agent.prevent_idle_sleep is on by default so idle sleep cannot halt a running thread; leave it true for unattended work and set it false only if you need the machine to sleep. SuperGrok sign-in lets SuperGrok subscribers use Grok models in the Agent Panel, and DeepSeek Flash 4.1 is newly selectable. Set agent.threads_sidebar_default_width to a pixel width that matches your layout, and run agent: rename selected thread after starting a Terminal Thread so concurrent work stays labeled. Markdown code blocks in the Agent Panel, hover popovers, and Markdown preview also render faster when reviewing agent output. After upgrade, drop workarounds for Copilot auto-compaction on models whose prompt limit is below the context window, Inline Assistant fallback when no default model is set, Anthropic credit exhaustion misclassified as a malformed request, and Ollama failing to see images returned by tool calls. Do not infer anything from the three omitted changelog lines.
Proposed actions
- Open Zed settings.json and merge this object without deleting other keys: {"agent": {"prevent_idle_sleep": true, "threads_sidebar_default_width": 320}}
- In the Zed Agent Panel, complete SuperGrok sign-in, then pick a Grok model for the next thread if you have a SuperGrok subscription.
- In the Agent Panel model picker, enable DeepSeek Flash 4.1 and use it for high-volume, low-latency turns instead of a larger default model.
- After creating a Terminal Thread, run the Agent Panel action
agent: rename selected threadand set the name to the current task slug (example: nightly-test-fix). - From an actionable inlay hint, run the language-server action in place; for other LSP commands, open the new language server command picker instead of searching docs.
